Vikki’s Musings

This is the first book I have read by Amy Rose Bennett, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m glad I decided to read The Master of Strathburn in exchange for an honest review. This is a story of high adventure with a yummy highlander as the hero.

Jessie Munroe finds herself in a difficult situation when her father leaves to collect the rents for the Earl of Lochrose. His son, Simon Grant, decides she is fair game and corners her while she’s out riding. Desperate to escape his devious plan to have her as his mistress, she flees, planning to go to her cousin in Edinburgh.

While trying to make it to the earl’s hunting lodge to wait for the mail coach, she slips and twists her ankle. Then someone takes a shot at her, grazing her arm. When she awakens, she discovers her rescuer is the earl’s estranged son, Robert, who escaped after the Culloden.

As Robert helps her travel to Edinburgh, the attraction between them is too strong to ignore. Can she possibly give her heart to a known Jacobite, who could end up with a noose around his neck?

The Master of Strathburn is a fast-paced story with plenty of action, suspense and intrigue. The plot is well-developed, and Ms. Bennett weaves in the history of the times with a masterful touch.

Jessie is a wonderful heroine. She’s spunky and determined to find a way to thwart Simon’s plans for her. She uses her keen intelligence on more than one occasion to get herself out of trouble. I truly enjoyed her character from the first page to the last.

Robert is an amazing hero. He is a warrior, determined to protect Jessie no matter what he has to do to accomplish it. I could feel his remorse over the pain he caused his father when he was a hot-headed young man. He truly redeems his character.

If you like a great love story with plenty of emotion along with a good deal of suspense, then you will enjoy The Master of Strathburn. I will definitely be looking for other books by Ms. Bennett. Happy reading!

About the Author:
Amy Rose Bennett has always wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember. An avid reader with a particular love for historical romance, it seemed only natural to write stories in her favorite genre. She has a passion for creating emotion-packed—and sometimes a little racy—stories set in the Georgian and Regency periods. Of course, her strong-willed heroines and rakish heroes always find their happily ever after.
Amy is happily married to her own Alpha male hero, has two beautiful daughters, and a rather loopy Rhodesian Ridgeback. She has been a speech pathologist for many years but is currently devoting her time to her one other true calling—writing romance.
