Fifteen years ago, a family member stole the money Hunt Knox had saved for college, while three of his siblings and his father hid the truth and told him to get over it. Betrayed by their lies and thievery, Hunt joined the army and wound up flying Apache helicopters in Iraq. Now, he's a chopper pilot for an oil company in Houston, Texas, his father has been dead for six years, and he's finally returning home to Blessings at his mother's dying request.

Ava Ridley, the little girl Hunt's mother used to babysit, has grown up and is a nurse at his mother's bedside when he arrives. Ava is overjoyed to see him. She had a huge crush on him when she was young. And as the two spend more time together, Ava's crush grows to be even more.

Through secrets, lies, family betrayal, and difficult choices, Hunt's not sure he and Ava can make it together in Blessings. But everybody loves somebody, and Hunt isn't willing to lose the one person who makes their small town feel like his forever home.

Grab some sweet tea and sit awhile: This sweet contemporary romance has family betrayal, childhood crushes, a veteran hero, and a second chance to get everything right.

Vikki’s Musings

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the electronic copy of Somebody to Love by Sharon Sala. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this engaging novel prior to publication. My opinions are my own, and nothing has influenced them.

Somebody to Love is a lovely addition to the Blessings, Georgia series. The characters are endearing, and the plot is fascinating. I love the small town of Blessings, and all the amazing characters I’ve grown to love as I read this captivating series.

At first, it took a bit of time to get used to Ms. Sala’s writing style, since so many characters have a point of view, and it changes quickly and often. Now that I have adjusted, I no longer find it distracting. In fact, I enjoy it.

Ava Ridley is the heroine in this story, and I quickly became vested in her character. She’s determined and loyal to her friends and family. She also has an excellent moral set of rules she lives by.

Hunt Knox is our hero, and he has all the characteristics that I most admire. He’s burdened by the past, but he still looks after his siblings when has mother asks him to do so on her deathbed. When he sees Ava, after being gone for years, he’s immediately drawn to her. I loved his conviction regarding his feelings toward her. It’s unwavering.

The romance between Ava and Hunt is sweet, and the attraction is strong. The love scenes are more about the emotions and not the physical aspect of making love. I enjoyed their love story and wanted them to have a lovely happy ending!

If you enjoy small town romances with characters that will grab you and not let go, and an emotional plot, then you will love Somebody to Love as much as I do. This is an amazing series, and I highly recommend you read this book and the others in it. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

Thanks go to the Book Buzz and Net-Galley for the electronic copy  of Anne Ever After by Lynne Marshall. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this heartfelt romance. My opinions are my own, and nothing has influenced my rating of this book.

Anne Ever After is a small-town romance set in Southern California. The pacing pulled me into the story right away and kept my interest until the end. There’s a good bit of emotion in the plot, and the writing flows beautifully.

Anne Grady is the heroine, and I enjoyed many aspects of her character, but I did grow frustrated with her because she vacillates concerning her feelings for the hero. She clings to her old hurts and can’t move beyond it.

Jack Lightfoot is a great hero. I became vested in his character from the start. He’s a man of integrity and recognizes the hurt he caused Anne and wants her forgiveness. I felt his pain and wanted him to get his girl.

The romance between Anne and Jack is electric, and I enjoyed them as a couple. I just wish Anne had realized she was holding onto a hurt way too long and could miss out on the best man for her.

If you enjoy contemporary romance with strong characters and an emotional plot, then you will love Anne Ever After as much as I did. I enjoyed Ms. Marshall’s writing style and will look for other books by her. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of Song for a Cowboy by Sasha Summers. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this book prior to publication. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.

Song for a Cowboy is a light-hearted western romance with endearing characters and an emotionally charged plot. The pacing pulled me in from the first page and kept me entranced until the last. Ms. Summers has really done her research of the music industry!

Emmy Lou King is an endearing heroine. Her issues are ones I’ve struggled with most of my life, so I really identified with her. Her insecurities pulled at my heartstrings. While she understands her mother has problems, she is still stuck in her, please my mom at all costs!

Brock Watson is a great hero with a lot of heart. While he has baggage, he doesn’t let it pull him down. I loved his back story as a drug addict and alcoholic since members of my family are also in recovery. That helped me bond with him right away. While his honor makes it impossible for him to tell Emmy Lou the truth at one point in the story, he doesn’t give up!

The romance between Emmy Lou and Brock is amazing. It’s not only a strong physical relationship, it’s also an extremely emotional connection. For me the closed-door sexual scenes were perfect and just as satisfying as detailed scenes are. I really wanted them to find their way back to each other.

If you enjoy contemporary western romances with great characters and a plot that has good depth, then you will love Song for a Cowboy as much as I did. This is the second book in the Kings of Country, and it’s as great as the first book, maybe even better. I can’t wait to read Travis’s story. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of Highland Defender by Kathryn Le Veque. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this book prior to publication. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.

Highland Defender is a well-written novel, and Ms. Le Veque’s descriptions gave me enough information without keeping me from using my imagination. I could actually see in my mind’s eye the arena, and the crowds of cheering people. I could hear the clashing swords. She is also a master of the dialogue that is unique to the highlands of Scotland.

Lucia Symington is the heroine, and she has a true nurturing nature, which she shows toward the young boy in the tale. She’s loyal to her friends and watches out for them. Even though she serves a self-centered lady, she doesn’t bemoan or complain. She’s the true lady. I love this arche type, so Lucia greatly appealed to me, but let me say, in no way is she weak. She’s a determined, strong woman, a protector.

Bane Morgan is the hero, and he is a true warrior. He also has a wounded soul. For me that is always a winning combination! Although he’s at an extremely low place when he meets Lucia, he quickly realizes her worth, and that helps him return to life, making him willing to do whatever he needs to win her heart.

I loved the chemistry between Lucia and Bane. It’s so much more than the physical attraction. There is a truly strong emotional connection between them. The love scenes are beautifully written, focusing more on their emotions than the physical, and I enjoyed them a great deal.

If you enjoy historical romance set in the medieval period with compelling characters and an emotionally charged plot, then you will love Highland Defender as much as I did. For the last year, I’ve been reading less historical romance novels, and this book has me questioning why. I look forward to reading more novel by Ms. Le Veque. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of Forever my Cowboy by June Faver. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this book prior to publication. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.

Forever my Cowboy is an emotionally charged romance with engaging characters and a great plot. The pacing is excellent and kept me enmeshed from the first page to the last. Ms. Faver adds an authentic feel of Texas ranching, and that helped pull me into the story. The adorable little ones contributed as well.

Jennifer LaChance’s character took a little time to pull me in because she isn’t immediately lovable in the beginning, but Ms. Faver redeems her and had me rooting for her well before the end of the tale. At first, she came across as lacking empathy since she didn’t take into account the hero’s grief. However, her desire to do right by her late brother’s children is admirable and had me warming to her character.

Cade Garrett is an interesting hero. At first, he makes a snap judgment regarding Jennifer, but he soon realizes his mistake. I enjoyed his character and quickly wanted him to get the girl, and his adorable niece and nephew. He’s not an alpha male which is what is normally found in this genre, and it was a refreshing change, giving the story a touch of difference.

The romance between Jennifer and Cade takes some time to heat up, since the plot places them on opposite sides regarding the children. The couple do have a good bit of chemistry as the story progresses, and I wanted them to find their happy ending.

If you enjoy western contemporary romance with characters that will touch your heart and a plot that offers more than just a love story, then you will love Forever my Cowboy. There are several suspenseful scenes that I enjoyed a lot. The whodunit it quality is excellent, and I wasn’t sure who the culprit is until close to the climax. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for a complimentary copy of Boone: Eternity Springs by Emily March. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this novel prior to publication. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.

Boone: Eternity Springs is a great addition to The McBrides of Texas series. The pacing kept me engaged from the first page to the last. The book is well written with engaging characters and a plot that will touch your heart.

Hannah Dupree’s character is such a tortured soul with personal losses few can handle, but she is determined to do it. While taking a cleansing journey, she stumbles upon the enchanting town of Eternity Springs. She feels it’s a place of solace, a place where she can heal.

Boone McBride is a compelling hero who hides his pain behind his smooth-talking ways and astonishing good looks. When he accepts custody for an infant from a young woman he believes he failed, he’s determined to be the best father possible. Although he has a lot of complications in his life, he can’t resist Hannah. In her, he senses another wounded soul, and he wants to help her find peace.

The romance between Hannah and Boone is lovely. Since both of them are recovering from their troubled past, they fit together from the beginning, and I truly wanted them to find their happy ending.

If you enjoy contemporary romance that has a character-driven plot with the amazing characters from the Eternity Springs series, then you will love Boone as much as I did. While this can easily be read as a stand-alone novel, I encourage you to read Ms. March’s Eternity Springs series. It’s amazing. Happy reading!
