Vikki’s Musings

Collette Cameron is fast becoming an author I can count on for witty banner, emotional writing, and engaging characters. I’m so pleased that I had a chance to read her newest release. I received an ARC from the author, and I am happy to write a review with my honest opinion. Brette: Intentions Gone Astray is a delightful romp through Regency England!

Brette Culpepper sees herself a bit of a matchmaker. She relishes the opportunity to pair couples together. Unfortunately, many times, the matches lead to scandal as has her latest attempt. An unlikely rescuer steps in, the vicar Alexander Hawksworth.

Alex has an unrequited passion for Brette, but as a third in line for a title, but oceans apart from ever inheriting, he is not a fit suitor for the delightful Miss Culpepper. When tragedy strikes and his cousin the earl and his heir perish in a fire, Alex become the Earl. Now, the only thing that stands in his way is the suspicious happenings regarding his cousins’ death.

Brette is not having an easy time either. She has discovered she is not her father’s daughter and could possibly be illegitimate. Although she is now an heiress, society shuns her. Also, her grandfather’s heir is demanding custody since she is underage.

In a race against time, will Alex be able to save her and become worthy of her love?

Brette: Intentions Gone Astray is a lovely Regency historical that will sweep you back to the time of that period. The dialogue is true to the period without coming across stiff. I loved the banter between the heroine and the hero.

Brette is an endearing character. She loves her sisters and the man who has raised her as his daughter. She is crushed when she learns of her suspicious origins and the connection with the Duke of Bellingshire. I could feel her confusion and pain. It had me brushing away a few tears on more than one occasion.

Alex is a devil may care fellow, unsuited to the role of vicar, although, he does have a generous heart and works tirelessly to help the unfortunate. He knows he loves Brette, but believes he is unworthy. Even after he inherits the title, he still feels it is impossible for them to find happiness. I had great empathy for his character and wanted him the win the girl.

The chemistry between Brette and Alex sizzles. Ms. Cameron is a master at building sexual tension, a hallmark of historical romance. That aspect of this sub-genre is why I love reading it, along with becoming lost in another time and place.

I highly recommend Brette: Intentions Gone Astray, especially if you enjoy a great Regency romance that will have you laughing and crying throughout the story. I look forward to reading other books by this talented author. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

I enjoy Collette Cameron’s books quite a bit. While looking for audio companions, I found The Earl’s Enticement in the Kindle Unlimited program with the offer to purchase the audio version at a fantastic price, so I immediately downloaded it.

Ms. Cameron’s writing style is smooth and flowing, her characters are complex and her pacing is excellent. The plot for this book is well thought out. I immediately became enmeshed in the story.

I did not immediately fall in love with Adaira’s character because in the beginning she acts without much forethought and makes assumptions that turn out to be wrong. This impulsive behavior has what could turn out to be dire consequences. As the story unfolds I did grow to love her character.

Roark is an excellent hero. He shows he is willing to forgive, even though Adaira’s behavior is atrocious toward him in the beginning. He is a strong protector and shows love and caring toward his sister. He has a great deal of patience as well.

If you enjoy a Regency romance that will sweep you back in time, and one with a moving love story, then you will enjoy The Earl’s Enticement as much as I did. I look forward to reading other books by this very talented author. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

This is the first book by Collette Cameron I have read, and it will not be the last. I enjoyed her witty dialogue and the intrigue in Virtue and Valor. This is an excellent example of a Scottish regency historical with a good feel of the time period.

Bartholomew Yancy, Earl of Ramsbury is in need of a wife, and he wants Isobel Ferguson, the sister to Viscount Sethwick, Laird of Craiglocky Keep, a man he has called friend since their school days. When the opportunity arises for him to travel to Craiglocky in service of the Prince Regent, he immediately accepts. However, his pursuit will not be easy. The lass has given him a cold shoulder since the previous Christmas.

Isobel Ferguson has been in love with Yancy since a young girl of nine, but she learned at her sister’s Christmastide ball that he has an agreement to wed his ward, a young woman he knows in an intimate way. When Yancy arrives at her brother’s keep, she must control her emotions. He must never know how she feels. Her pride will not allow it.

When Isobel is kidnapped, Yancy races after her, determined to save her. Once he rescues her, her reputation is in tatters, so he asks her to marry him. After all, he planned to wed her anyway. Even though her family urges her to accept, Isobel turns him down. Will Yancy uncover the reason for her refusal, or will he lose her without ever learning why?

I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between Yancy and Isobel. Ms. Cameron has woven a charming story with plenty of sexual tension and intrigue. This is an action-packed tale that kept me flipping the pages on my Kindle to see what would happen next.

Now for my reason I did not give Virtue and Valor 5 Gold Crowns. I would have liked a bit more depth in the characters, especially Isobel. At times she is very antagonistic to the point that I wanted to shake some sense into her. While on the other hand, Yancy’s character is terrific, and I fell in love with him from the very beginning. His character is why I enjoyed the story as much as I did.

Nonetheless, this is a great story, and I will want to read other books by Ms. Cameron. If you enjoy an adventurous tale with enough action to make this a fast read, then you will enjoy Virtue and Valor. Happy reading!
