Publisher & Release: Montlake Romance, October 8, 2019

Time and setting:  Present Day, Seattle

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Military Romance

Length: 279 Pages

Heat Level: 1 Flame

Rating:  4 Gold Crowns

Book Description:

Finn Anderson is a loyal military veteran who has no desire to live a life of luxury and ease, but sometimes a person doesn’t get a choice. His life is flipped upside down when he and his four brothers learn they’re long-lost relatives of the absurdly famous and wealthy Joseph Anderson. The eccentric but generous billionaire puts the brothers to work building a new veterans center, and that’s not all: Joseph won’t stop until each nephew finds love.
Finn has never expected or wanted an easy life, and he struggles with his early retirement from the elite SEAL team. But when a very confident Brooke Garrison literally sweeps him off his feet during a self-defense class he’s teaching, he thinks less about his past and more about a brand-new future.
If Finn knows anything for certain, it’s that he can’t let this woman get away. Though Brooke is tough and compassionate, the loss of her brother has left her vulnerable. She isn’t sure she can risk loving and losing another person in her life, including a very determined ex-SEAL. Can the two of them look beyond their past wounds and embrace what they’re feeling?

Vikki’s Musings

Finn is the first book in Melody Anne’s newest series. When I received an invitation from the publisher, via Net-Galley, to read and review, the book description sounded interest, so I accepted. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.

This is another sexy romance by Ms. Anne. I enjoyed the unique twist in this contemporary romance. There are four brothers, and they find out they have an uncle they’ve never met. Joseph Anderson proposes they work with him on a project to help veterans. Finn is the oldest of the four brothers and has recently left the Navy, after he received injuries that prevent him from continuing his career as a Navy SEAL.

Brooke Garrison’s character is a Physician’s Assistant who wants to help people. I liked her quite a lot. She has plenty of spunk and spice, whether she’s with her friends or the new hot guy in her life.

Finn Anderson is a yummy hero. He makes up his mind that Brooke is the woman for him, and he pursues her with a vengeance. He does not give up, even when Brooke tries to push him away.

The romance between Brooke and Finn blazes hot and fast. I loved the banter and flirting between the pair. I could easily see them together as a couple and wanted them to find their happy ending.

If you enjoy contemporary romance with lively characters and an intriguing plot twist, then you will enjoy Finn. I liked meeting all the brothers and look forward to reading their stories in the additional books in this new series. Happy reading!

Time and setting: Present DayGreece

Genre: Contemporary Romance/SEAL

Length:  166 Pages

Book Description:

After a sudden job lay off, Maya holes up in her apartment, drinking wine and eating ice cream until the day she’s slated to leave for Greece. Even though she’s lost enthusiasm for this Greek island swimming vacation, she’s paid for the trip so she boards the plane.

She figures her life can’t possibly get any worse. She’s unemployed and spent most of her savings hiring a lawyer to collect commissions her corrupt boss refused to pay. She stumbles down to the Lefkada Island dock the first morning jetlagged and grumpy. When she spots a Greek man with a drool-worthy body, her plan is to look casual. Instead, she trips and plunges straight into the water. It wouldn’t be so bad if she never had to see him again. But Eros, a former Hellenic Navy SEAL, is one of her swimming tour companions. He boards the boat, pokes fun at her American mannerisms and asks way too many irritating questions. And he’s so damn hot, he makes her feel confused and distracted all the time. To make matters worse, he’s assigned to be one of her swimming partners.

Maybe Maya could have ignored the simmering attraction between them if it weren’t for the earthquake, the tidal wave and being stranded alone with him on Kalamos Island.

Excerpt:

Where are all these crazy random thoughts coming from? My mind isn’t usually this disordered. Right now it feels more turbulent than the open sea we’re about to venture into. My stomach lurches at the thought. I wonder if maybe I should have taken an extra motion sickness pill just in case the prescribed amount isn’t enough for me. Stop. Get your head together. This too handsome man is wreaking havoc on my equilibrium. I nearly laugh out loud at the stupidity of that ridiculous thought. What equilibrium? I’ve already demonstrated my shit sense of balance to everyone on this boat and soon they’ll know I’m mentally unbalanced as well.

“I believe we’re all here now,” says Libby. She disappears into the cabin to start taking a head count and ends the counting by touching me on the head. “Thirteen’s the lot. Very good.”

Thirteen swimmers on the boat and I’ve just been dubbed the unlucky thirteenth. I try to discard thoughts of bad luck colored by images of sinking boats and muscle cramps. Normally, I’m slightly superstitious. But now I’m feeling downright neurotic. I’m completely annoyed with my predicament. I was as stable as any other person until the shit with my job hit the fan and I flew to Greece. Now, I’ve seen one hot guy, been given a random unlucky number and suddenly have the thought processes of a crazy lunatic.

Forget unlucky thirteen. Now he’s walking toward me. I clear my throat and cough. Damn. My mouth feels dry, but my water bottle is in the bottom of my bag. I won’t allow my mouth to fall open as I watch his large, tanned feet take several athletic steps until he’s standing right in front of me. Okay, so here we are. I’ll utter one or two stupid things right away so I can get the worst of the embarrassment over with right off the bat.

What I really need right now is a shot of tequila.

Vikki’s Musings

This is a great addition to the K2 Team series. It is also available in Kindle-Unlimited with the audio version included. Falling For Her is “Saint” Jamie and Sugar’s love story, and I really enjoyed this one so much!

Sugar Darling is on the run, has been for years. She has tried very hard to live under the radar by working at Booby Palace under the table. When an opportunity to work for K2 Special Services comes her way, she grabs it. Of course, it puts her in Jaime Turner’s path. A man she is drawn to in a big way.

Jamie Turner works for K2 Special Services doing what he loves best, taking bad guys out of commission. When he discovers Sugar working at K2, he is annoyed, since she is a distraction he does not need. She is all wrong for him, nothing like his ideal woman. While his brain knows this, his heart and body disagrees.

When Jamie learns Sugar’s secret, will it keep him from making a huge mistake, or will he realize she is the perfect mate after all?

This is a fast-paced read with plenty of emotion and passion from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the complex relationship between Jamie and Sugar. Both characters have a lot of substance. Each have tragic back-stories, which adds greatly to the emotional level of the writing. Falling For Her gave my an even stronger sense of Pensacola than Someone Like Her, which was a fond walk down memory lane for me!

Sugar’s character has many layers to her personality. While she presents an image of a flighty woman, she is far from that. She lives in terror that her ex will find her, but she beats down her alter-ego, Hannah, whenever she threatens to take over. Hannah is nothing like Sugar. She is weak and scared, quaking in her shoes, ready to run at the first sign of Rodney. Sugar wants to fight it out, which creates great conflict within her character.

Jamie is a great hero. The terrible loss he suffered as a young man has colored all his decisions on how he needs to live his life. He has vowed to never drink, use drugs or cuss, but he has a particularly hard time with the last vice, taking to mutter insane phrases to avoid using profanity. I found this hilarious and enjoyed it a lot. Some of them are truly awful, but that is what makes them so humorous. I loved his internal struggle with what he thinks he needs in a woman and what he finds in Sugar.

The attraction between Sugar and Jamie sizzles and creates fantastic sexual tension. Although there are several explicit sexual love scenes toward the end, the build up makes this an emotionally-charged read. When they do come together, it is combustible.

I thoroughly enjoyed Falling For Her, and it is my favorite of this terrific series. If you have not read any of the books in it, then I highly recommend reading them. They do not need to be read in order since while many of the characters involved with K2 are in the four books, they just enticed me to find out what their stories were. Happy reading!
