Louise “Lulu” Kingsley is thrilled to discover after years of wishing for a sibling, Cami Chandler is her half-sister. When Cami invites her to live with her at Chandler Hill, Lulu jumps at the chance to leave behind all the heartache in her recent life. Not the spoiled little rich girl the media would like everyone to think, Lulu digs into marketing for the inn and winery, feeling more comfortable there than she ever did in California with her political father. Better yet, her mother is becoming a stronger, happier person and shares the idea of becoming part of a new family. Even though Lulu is aware that Miguel Lopez is the kind of guy who represents everything she’s trying to forget, she’s attracted to him. Following a heartbreaking situation, she steps away from their relationship. Lulu settles in at Chandler Hill, coping the best way she knows—by working hard. But when Cami’s beloved grandfather, Rafe, has a stroke, Lulu realizes life is short and knows she must make things right with Miguel, and learns that home is where your heart leads you.

Thanks goes the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of Home at Last by Judith Keim. I have read this women’s fiction novel with strong romantic elements for the purpose of expressing my view and opinions which are not influenced in any way.

Home at Home is the third book in Ms. Keim’s Chandler Hill Inn series. I read the first two books and enjoyed them immensely, so I couldn’t wait to read Home at Last. This novel reunites two half-sisters, who have only recently discovered each other.

The writing pulled me in right away and kept me engaged until the end. The character development is solid, and the plot is unique. While I’m glad I read Home at Last, it wasn’t as amazing as the other two were, but still an excellent book.

Louise Kingsley, aka Lulu, character has many aspects of her personality I enjoyed, but there were a few I found annoying. She vacillates quite a lot between which man she wants. I’m not a huge fan of love triangles so that may have affected my overall enjoyment a touch. She has reason to fall back on the tried and true she’s known from her political father. Also, she has good reason to have concerns regarding faithfulness in a relationship. My issue came from her back and forth from one to other.

Miguel Lopez is our hero and I enjoyed his character a great deal. He’s a loyal grandson and friend. His issues aren’t as involved as the heroine’s. He easily attracts women, and has, since his teenage years. This causes unnecessary flags raised in Lulu’s mind. He isn’t a “lady killer” he’s just an engaging man, who he appeals to females with little effort. He’s an all-around good guy, willing to extend his hand of friendship.

The romance isn’t the strong focus of this book, and that’s easy to see from the first. Although that’s not to say it’s a lovely love story. Lulu’s issues and problems and learning to live with them and resolve them is the central premise. She is getting to know her sister, and she has a complex relationship with her mother. Her father was a womanizer. All these issues are enough to affect her life. I’m happy to say I enjoyed her resolutions.

If you’re looking for a novel that deals with real-life issues with intricate relationships, then you will enjoy Home at Last as much as I. I’m so glad I found Ms. Keim’s novels and look forward to reading future books by her. Happy reading!

Author Bio:

I’ve loved stories and reading from the time I played “Librarian” with my sister as a young girl. Living in a relatively small town in upstate New York, reading became a way to experience the world in a way I couldn’t otherwise do.
Many a hot, summer afternoon was spent reading, sprawled on the front-porch “glider”, escaping to a time and place far from there. My mother was an avid reader, some might suspect to keep her sanity while raising three active children – especially when my brother was doing experiments with his chemistry set!
Books were always present – being read, ready to go back to the library or about to be discovered. Information from the books was shared in general conversation, giving all of us a wealth of knowledge. Perhaps that is why I was drawn to the idea of writing stories early on.
I particularly love and write novels about women who meet unexpected challenges with strength and find love along the way. A child or dog in the story is a plus.
As J.S. Keim, I’ve written middle-grade fantasy stories for kids. I especially like to write about kids landing in unexpected places, meeting characters real and fantastic, and learning to see the world in a different way.
A hybrid author who both has a publisher and self-publishes, Ms. Keim writes heart-warming stories. Her books are based, in part, on many of the places she’s lived or visited and on the interesting people she’s met, creating believable characters and realistic settings her many, loyal readers love.
Presently, I lived in Boise, Idaho with my husband and our two dachshunds, Winston and Wally.
