Her
Best Mistake by Donna McDonald
Maybe
other forty year old divorced women were different, but Lisa Dennison didn’t
climb into bed with every guy she dated. Now she wished she had never even
agreed to date younger man, Eric Roberts, at all. She had been momentarily
flattered by his romantic attention, but as a man, Eric never really interested
her.
Telling Eric the truth about her lack of interest in him was only fair. Climbing into bed with Flynn Roberts, Eric's Harvard Professor twin, was insane. What she did with Finn was a mistake--a big mistake--even if it never felt like one.

Vikki’s Musings
I rarely read many contemporary novels, but a friend
recommended this one to me, and since it happened to be free, I decided to give
it a read. This is a light-hearted, funny story with tons of laugh out loud
moments. This is the first time I have read anything written by Donna McDonald,
but it will not be the last! For an 80 page book it is packed with many
delightful scenes for my reading enjoyment.
Harvard professor, Dr. Finn Roberts, has just
returned from an archaeological dig in Egypt. After a thirty-six flight, all he
wants is sleep. When his brother, Eric, picks him up from the airport, he is
relieved to hear that his twin has gotten him a suite at the Copley for the
next few days. Eric tells him he has set up a booty call for him, but Finn
vehemently declines the pleasure. He makes it to the suite and immediately
crashes.
When Lisa Dennison’s cell phone dies, she makes her
way to the Copley where she is supposed to meet Eric Roberts for a drink. While
she feels no chemistry for Eric, she had agreed since he “was handsome,
charming and mostly good company when he wasn’t distracted with his phone”. Not
finding Eric in the hotel, she approaches the desk clerk, and she hands her a
room key and a message telling her to come up to his suite. She does not think
she has desperate written across her face, but she probably deserves this for
considering a date with a younger man.
When Lisa uses the key to enter the suite, she finds
an enticing naked male, whom she believes is Eric sprawled across the large
bed. The scent of sandy beaches and something else she cannot quite figure out
lures her to explore the gorgeous backside of this man. For the first time since
her divorce desire stirs. Emboldened, she strips and climbs into bed. Primal
passion flares and she experiences the most electrifying sexual encounter of
her life.
When she discovers the next day that it is Eric’s
twin brother she romped in the sack with, she is speechless. Should she pretend
that they have never met, or could Finn be her best mistake?
Wow! I am thrilled I discovered this delightful
little gem of a story. The story line is unique and at times hilariously funny.
The character development is astonishing for such a short read. I fell in love
with Lisa’s slightly insecure personality and with Finn’s slightly nerdy one.
Both characters are extremely likeable, endearing in so many ways. The intimacy
between the couple is hot, yet tastefully done. Just the perfect touch when I
wanted a shorter less intense kind of read.
Normally I am not a huge fan of instant attraction,
fall immediately in love kind of stories, but this one works. Then to add in
the cougar element, well to say the least, I am shocked that I loved this book!
The ending wraps up this sweet story with a neatly tied bow. I will definitely
be looking for more stories by this talented author. Happy reading!
