Vikki’s
Musings
After reading/listening to Book 5 and Book 6 in
Sharon Hamilton’s SEAL Brotherhood series, I decided I wanted to read/listen to
SEAL
of my Heart. As I began to read, I realized I had read this one before
in the boxed set, SEALS of Summer, but since I vaguely recalled it as an
enjoyable read, I delved in knowing that even if I remembered the story, I
would have the pleasure of listening to the fabulous J.D. Hart’s narrative.
Kate Morgan is looking forward to visiting her
sister in Portland. When she tries to find a window seat, the only one
available has a briefcase laying on it and a gorgeous hunk in the middle seat.
The young man’s warm blue-eyed gaze meets hers and he offers her the seat. Kate
slides in beside him, grateful to no longer be holding up other passengers.
The young SEAL matches Kate’s image of the men in
all the romance novels she avidly reads, a man to sweep her off her feet, carry
her away and make mad, passionate love to her. This is a big problem, since she
is supposed to be getting married soon to the son of one of the wealthiest
vineyard owners in Sonoma County—and her employer. All through the flight, they
talk and laugh and find out they have so much in common. Things she does not
have in common with her fiancée.
When the plane lands, Kate gratefully accepts a ride
when she receives a text from her sister, saying she can’t pick her up. After
they arrive at her sister’s house, Tyler Gray walks her to the door and tells
her he hopes she has a wonderful wedding and a great life, then turns to leave.
Kate stops him and suggests they write each other during his upcoming
deployment.
Kate realizes she may be making the biggest mistake
of her life if she goes through with her
wedding to her fiancée, and when he calls, she break it off. All she
feels is relief, but she hates that his family and hers have already spent a
lot of money. However, she just can’t go through with her plans, not after
feeling so much attraction to another man. In the long run, it would be unfair
to both of them to enter into a one-sided marriage.
Unable to stay away, Tyler arrives on her doorstep
the next day with his first letter in hand and they talk and share a blazing
kiss, but he leaves telling her she needs to think on what she really wants to
do. He must do the honorable thing, no matter how much he does not want to.
That’s the set up for the story. Kate and Tyler, of
course can’t stay away from each other and have a lot of mind blowing sex over
the course of the book. Ms. Hamilton can definitely write some hot sexual
scenes filled with plenty of emotion. I enjoyed the romance between Kate and
Tyler, and the chemistry they have is incredible.
Now what did not work for me. The plot for this
story is fairly predictable and similar to the one in Cruisin’ For a SEAL. I’m
not sure I like the fact that in both of these books, the heroine starts out
engaged to another. This is by no means a deal breaker, and I enjoyed the rest
of the story a great deal, especially the suspenseful climax at the end. Ms.
Hamilton has a masterful touch when writing exciting scenes. When Tyler is in
the thick of it in North Africa, I was holding onto my seat.
Again, J.D. Hart delivers a stellar performance,
bringing the excitement and passion in the book to life. Since I had already
read SEAL
of my Heart, his narrative gave me a different spin on this smokin’ hot
story. His voice during the suspenseful action really enhanced the scenes
tremendously. I can certainly see why Sharon Hamilton likes his style.
I already have the next book downloaded on my Kindle
in the boxed set, Hot Alpha SEALs, but I just found out the story is not
complete in that set, so I just downloaded SEAL’s Promise and bought the audio
version as well. I can’t wait to read the next one in this fantastic series.
Happy reading!

Her
Golden Vampires of Tuscany are not like any vamps you’ve read before, since
they don’t have to go to ground, and can walk around in the full light of the
sun. Honeymoon Bite, Book 1 of the Golden Vampires of Tuscany Series, has
earned the Amazon designation of #1 Gothic Romance. It and Book 2 in the
series, Mortal Bite are both available on audio as well.
Her
Guardian Angels struggle with the human charges they are sent to save, often
escaping their vanilla world of Heaven for the brief human one. You won’t find
any of these beings in any Sunday school class.
Sharon
lives in Sonoma County, California, with her husband and two Dobermans. A
lifelong organic gardener, when she’s not writing, she’s getting verra verra
dirty in the mud, or wandering Farmer’s Markets looking for new Heirloom
varieties of vegetables and flowers.

Thank you so much, Vikki, for this insightful, detailed review. I appreciate your time and how you pointed out several of the finer and perhaps more obscure parts of the plot and the book. Tastes differ on the engagement of a heroine prior, and for some reason I like to have this as an added plot thickener. In SEAL's Promise, she's not only married, but very pregnant when they get together, so we'll see how you like that one. But there are circumstances that greatly differ. My first pregnant love scene!
ReplyDeleteAgain, thanks and best of luck with your blog, and your heartfelt reviews. As a writer, I so appreciate you and the many bloggers and reviewers out there!
Thanks, Sharon. I'm glad you liked my review this week!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Tylers story. JD whispering in my ear was a wonderful experience. His voice does bring added enjoyment to a good book. Can't wait for Gretchen to get her man
