Mega star Jensen Ford returns to his home state of Tennessee, to film a blockbuster film. Although the pretty local bakery owner catches his eye, she could never survive his Hollywood lifestyle. His mind knows its best to keep her at arms length, but how to convince his heart?

Cassie Tucker doesn't like arrogant Jensen Ford, definitely doesn't want to get to know him either. With a cupcake shop to run, an ex harassing her and her younger brother moving in, she doesn't have time for the movie star's antics.

Is it fate or happenstance that they end up alone together time after time?

Vikki’s Musings

I have been a fan of Hildie McQueen’s books since I read and reviewed Where the Four Winds Collide. Her writing flows smoothly, and her pacing is excellent. Her dialogue is sharp and crisp, and very much as people talk in real life. I love her character building, not just the hero and the heroine, but the secondary characters as well. The Last Hero is true to her writing style, and I enjoyed it immensely. I’m so pleased I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC.

When Cassie Tucker stumbles across a very nude Jenson Ford, while delivering her cupcake order for the movie crew, she fights to keep her gaze from roaming over the movie star’s very tight, well-sculpted ass. The man has been a thorn in her side ever since he showed up in Lovely, Tennessee to star in his latest movie.

Since she has a contract with the crew to deliver her gourmet cupcakes to them each day and help her friend Tesha serve breakfast, she sees the arrogant star almost every day. Ever since he belittled her work, she has barely been able to tolerate Jenson. Yet, she feels the pull of attraction whenever she sees him, which annoys her even more.

Jenson doesn’t understand it. Cassie does not resemble any of the women he is usually attracted to. For one thing, she has enticing curves and generous boobs, so different from the pencil-thin starlets he dates. The starlets are easy since all they want is a good time, and he is more than willing to give them what they want, including his latest girlfriend.

After a few encounters with Jenson, Cassie wonders if there is more to the pretty boy than meets the eye. When passion combusts between them, it has her in a tailspin. Could a relationship between them have a chance, or would she be better off, hiding behind her work and leaving the handsome hunk to his co-star?

While Even Heroes Cry, the first book in Fords of Nashville Series, is an emotionally-charged read, The Last Hero is a light-hearted, sometimes humorous story of a mismatched couple who cannot leave each other alone. This delightful tale can easily be read in one sitting since it moves along at a fast entertaining clip.

I liked Cassie’s character when she was introduced in the first book of the series. I fell in love with her in The Last Hero. She is a determined, yet kind-hearted soul, whether helping her friend Tesha or encouraging her younger brother, Kyland. I love her strong will and independence, a woman after my own heart.

Jenson Ford is more than a spoiled movie star. Underneath his austere demeanor, beats a tender heart. I particularly liked his character’s growth, and he had me rooting for him when he continued to run up against the wall Cassie had built to protect her bruised heart. I really wanted this great couple to find their ‘happily ever after’.

While there are a few inconsistencies in the timeline of the story, it did not take away from my reading enjoyment. This is a great addition to this series, and I look forward to reading the next book. I’m sure you will enjoy this terrific story as much as I have. Happy reading!
