SPOTLIGHT on Kiss the Earl by Gina Lamm
Good morning! Thanks for coming by today. I'm pleased to welcome Gina Lamm to my blog. She has agreed to share her three wishes with us. Here they are!
Hi! I’m so happy to
be here celebrating KISS THE EARL’s release! Thanks so much to Vikki for
letting me hang out here today. Vikki has asked me if
I had three wishes that would come true, what would they be?
I toyed with this one
for a while. If this actually happened in real life, I’d do something like cure
world hunger, end war and discrimination, that kind of thing. Greater good
stuff, you know? But for today, I’m going to head in a different direction.
GINA’S THREE
COMPLETELY SELFISH WISHES
1.
I’d wish for an unlimited supply of
Caffeine Free, Diet Dr. Pepper. I’d require it to be served at EVERY
restaurant, be for sale at EVERY convenience store. Do you know how hard it is
to find diet caffeine free soda??? I know, I know, artificial sweeteners are
bad, mmkay. But still. When I need a Dr. Pepper, I need one.
2.
I want an in-home spa. And I don’t mean
a fancy bathtub. I mean like a huge, six-room complex with a manicurist,
pedicurist, massage therapist, mud baths, the WORKS. So like, right now, I
could walk down the hall and knock on the door and be greeted by a super-hot
guy who sits there and waits to give me a massage. Lord, I’m drooling just
thinking about it. Soft music, and scented oils, and strong hands just for me.
Then I’d have cute nails I could change every day, and I’d be so relaxed it’s
crazy. You’d have to check my pulse every now and then just to make sure I was
still alive. HEA-VEN.
3.
A credit card with no limit, no
payments, and no interest. Now, before you say “hey, that sounds kind of
reasonable,” let me tell you what I’d buy with it. I’d get a giant RV, like
rock bands tour in. Just so I can go wherever I want without having to get out
of my pajamas. I’d also get a few cases of Nerds candy. Because I love them
hard. Then I’d go to a mall and buy things from the FRONTS of stores! I’d spurn
the clearance racks! (I know. I’d be living dangerously. J
)
That’s what I’d do with
three wishes. Of course, If a genie really popped out of a bottle right now I’d
probably wish for some debt relief, and a new, bigger car to accommodate our
growing family, and world peace. But anyway, it’s fun to dream, right?
I hope you get the
chance to check out KISS THE EARL! If Ella got three wishes, she’d probably
just have used one of them to get back to her own time! But then she’d have
missed on the adventure—and the love—of a lifetime.
Thanks for reading!
XOXO,
Gina Lamm
A modern girl's guide to
seducing Mr. Darcy
When Ella Briley asked
her lucky-in-love friends to set her up for an office party, she was expecting
a blind date. Instead, she's pulled through a magic mirror and into the
past...straight into the arms of her very own Mr. Darcy.
Patrick Meadowfair, earl
of Fairhaven, is too noble for his own good. To save a female friend from what
is sure to be a loveless marriage, he's agreed to whisk her off to wed the man
she truly wants. But all goes awry when Patrick mistakes Ella for the would-be
bride and kidnaps her instead.
Centuries away from
everything she knows, Ella's finally found a man who heats her blood and leaves
her breathless. Too bad he's such a perfect gentleman. Yet the reluctant rake
may just find this modern girl far too tempting for even the noblest of men to
resist...

Vikki’s Musings
When I received an
invitation from Sourcebooks to participate in their April Blog tours, I read
the book description for Kiss the Earl and it piqued my
curiosity, since the premise for the story sounded quite unique. I signed up
and received an ARC. I am so glad I did! I have always enjoyed time travel
novels ever since I read my first one many years ago. Kiss the Earl is a
refreshing read with its witty dialogue and quirky heroine, so different from
most of the perfect drop dead gorgeous ones in most books. Not only is Ella a
geek, she is also a bit plump, a truly delightful and a very lovable character.
Ella Briley is a computer
nerd. She lives in her own fantasy world, drawing cartoons for Dare Studios.
Then she gets her first big break. She receives an offer from Whisperwind
Comics and if she can get the head artist spot on Admiral Action, she would
finally have a steady paycheck. Her dream come true job, she had loved Admiral
Action as a young child and still did.
Her friends set her up
with a blind date for a big PR gala, but when she arrives she is greeted by
Mrs. Knightbridge, a woman known for her magic, not that she believed in it. Mrs.
K tells her that her hair is out of place and suggests she straighten it using
the mirror above the bureau. Seeing what she thinks might be left over salad
from her last meal, she tries to remove it, but realizes it’s a spot on the
mirror and touches it. The next thing she knows she is transported through time
and space.
Ella quickly discovers,
she is in London when she hears someone speak with a British accent. After venturing
out onto the street, next thing she knows, she wakes up tied to a strange man
on top of a rapidly moving horse. When she attempts to yank her wrists free,
she inadvertently kicks the horse, and it screeches to a halt, sending her and
the man flying through the air, only to land in a muddy ditch.
This is the start of a
madcap adventure dashing across England, searching for the young woman, Amelia,
Patrick Meadowfair, the Earl of Fairhaven, had planned to abduct (all on
Amelia’s orders). I found myself, not only smiling through much of this tale,
but laughing out loud as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between Ella
and Patrick. Both characters engaged my interest from the start and had me
rooting for their ‘happily ever after’.
Ella’s antics and
dialogue had me chuckling through most of the book. She is an endearing
character with her innocent, yet worldly attitude all rolled into one very
amusing package. I love a book with plenty of humor, and Ella is one of the
most adorable heroines I have read of in quite some time. Her determination and
tenacity comes through on every page. Her goals and motivations are clearly
drawn as well as the conflict she feels when she realizes she is in love with
Patrick.
Patrick is also a
lovable character, so honorable and loyal, almost to his detriment. His goals,
motivations and conflict are also easily distinguishable. I really felt as if I
had taken up residence in his mind, I was that involved with his character. I
always love that when that happens.
If you like a witty tale
with plenty of action to keep the pace briskly rolling along, yet one where you
can truly experience the characters’ emotions, then you will definitely want to
read Kiss
the Earl. It is a story that will keep you entertained from beginning
to end. I highly recommend this delightful love story and now I have to go back
and read the other books in this series. I have already downloaded them. Happy
reading!
Author Bio:
Becoming a magician proved to be less interesting than Gina Lamm had anticipated when
she was six, so in her adult life, she’s turned to writing.
This belly-dancing, wisecracking, marshmallow-addicted mother of three energetic fur-children loves nothing more than penning funny, emotional tales of love, lust, and entertaining mishaps.
Married to a real live superhero, she and her family live in North Carolina, surrounded by tobacco farms, possums, and the occasional hurricane.
