Vikki’s Musings

This is the first book I have read by Catherine Bybee, but it will certainly not be the last. When I received an offer from the publisher to read and review Treasured by Thursday, the book description interested me, so I eagerly accepted it in exchange for an honest review. Even though this is the final book of this series, it can easily be read as a standalone, and I enjoyed it immensely.

After experiencing abuse at the hands of her late husband, Gabriella Masini has built a strong brick wall around her heart. When Hunter comes into her life, she is determined to remain aloof. She will never let another man have power over her again.

Hunter Blackwell is a man who expects people to obey all his demands. When he propositions Gabi, he is willing to go to any length to accomplish his goal, even if it means blackmailing this entrancing matchmaker from Alliance.

As danger threatens his new wife, will Hunter triumph over the villain, while winning the trust and heart of the brave and caring woman he has married?

Treasured by Thursday is a fast-paced story with just the right balance between romance and intrigue. Ms. Bybee pulled me into the story from the first page and held me enthralled until the end. Her prose is smooth and her dialogue is sparkling. The teasing between Gabi and Hunter is witty and at times, quite touched my heart.

Gabi’s character is fully fleshed out. I could feel the pain she suffered at the hands of her late husband. Her late husband was an evil bastard and deserved everything he got. I loved her strength of character and her fearlessness when facing the villain.

Hunter is a great hero. He has a complex personality with great depth. A lot more meets the eye to his character as the story unfolds. The thing I loved most about him is his desire to protect Gabi and Hayden from harm, even when it goes against his plans.

I thoroughly enjoyed Treasured by Thursday and can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fulfilling romance with lots of twists and turns to the plot, and plenty of suspense toward the end. I am sure you will love it as much as I did. Happy reading!

Excerpt:

“I think we should talk about what’s going on here.”
She swallowed. “We’re cooking.”
“Gabi, look at me.”
She shook her head, taking the coward’s way out. If she noticed the lock of hair falling into his eyes a second time, she might have to push it back in place.
“Gabriella?” The smooth texture of his voice was like chocolate on her tongue.
His sticky hand tucked under her chin and forced her to meet his gaze.
He stepped closer, his frame molding to hers and pressing her back against the counter.
She couldn’t breathe.
His thumb traced her bottom lip. “This is a bad idea,” he mumbled her thoughts.
She nodded. “Very poor choice.” Her hands gripped the side of the counter to keep from touching him.
Hunter sucked in a deep breath. “You smell like flowers.”
“I’ll change my shampoo.”
He started to dip his head and she kept talking. “Something musky, so you won’t notice me.”
“I don’t think that’s going to work.”
He was close enough to catch the scent of mint on his breath. “I don’t even like you.” One of her legs lifted and rubbed against one of his.
“I don’t trust you.” His hand moved from her lip the side of her neck.
“You blackmailed me.”
“You tricked me into cooking with your mother.”
She smiled. “The two hardly compare.”
Instead of dropping his lips to hers, he detoured to the side of her neck and kept talking, his breath brushing her skin. “Have you met your mother?”
“That’s sill—”
His lips found her neck.
She moaned and closed her eyes. Such a deliciously bad idea.
