Vikki’s Musings

When I agreed to participate in this tour for Into the Unknown, I was very excited to read and review this book. I have read several WWII romances over the last year and enjoyed them a great deal. Into the Unknown gave a great deal of insight into what it must have been like to live during this terrible war.

Since the book description gives just the right amount of information, I will forego doing any type of synopsis. Ms. Peel has interwoven the history of this time with a masterful touch into an interesting and unique love story. I was pulled into the story right away. I loved the growing relationship between Kate and Charlie until I reached the 70% point of the book. After that I became disenchanted. Without giving too much away, I’ll just say that Kate’s reaction to the event that happens at that point of the story was out of character for her and changed the flow of the story for me.

As a story of the times, this is a fantastic look at how it must have been for couples during WWII. Kate and Charlie rarely got to see each other, going months and more in between visits. I could grasp how difficult it must have been to keep a relationship going, and how easily a couple could grow apart. Kate and Charlie suffered tremendous loss. While Kate soldiered on, Charlie did not deal with his loss nearly as well, which weakened their connection.

I thoroughly enjoyed the historical elements of Into the Unknown and for that alone, I am glad I read this book. It’s unfortunate that for me the love story fell apart. However, the book does have a satisfying ending. If you want to read a great account of WWII and the impact it had on relationships, then I recommend reading Into the Unknown. Happy reading!
