Author Bio:

Angela Smith is a Texas native and was dubbed most likely to write a novel during her senior year in high school since she always had her nose stuck in a book. Although high school was decades ago, the dream began when her mom read ‘Brer Rabbit’ to her and her sister so often they could recite it back to each other before ever learning to read. Research is one of her favorite parts of piecing together a story, and she loves creating new characters. Angela started with writing romantic suspense and is branching into other genres, but she hasn’t been able to write one yet where falling in love doesn’t come into play. She works as a certified paralegal and office manager at her local District Attorney’s office and spends her free time with her husband and the animals on her small farm. Vikki’s Musings

Last July, I read Sylvie Stewart’s debut novel, The Fix and absolutely loved it. When Ms. Stewart asked if I would be interested in reading The Spark, I immediately agreed. This is another truly down-to-Earth kind of romance, and I am glad I had an opportunity to read it. Thanks to the author for an ARC.

The Spark is a well-written novel. It’s romantic comedy at its best. The pacing makes this a lightning fast read, yet it did not feel rushed at all. The dialogue zings and the characters have a good amount of depth to them. The plot is realistic and well-developed.

Fiona Pierce is a delightful heroine. She’s snarky and brings a smile to your face. She’s fiercely loyal to her friends and loves her parents. Fiona has a lot of depth to her character that is not normally found in romantic comedy. Her insecurities give her a vulnerable side she is determined to hide from the world, covering it up with humor, but underneath she is a very scared woman, afraid to allow herself to love since she believes she’s too damaged. I just wanted to grab her and hug her close.

Mark Beckett’s character is totally redeemed by the end of the story. Even though he is shallow at the beginning of the book, Ms. Stewart gained my empathy for him by showing his love and loyalty for his family and making him so fun and lively I could not resist his charm. While he has NEVER dated a woman, only had meaningless sexual encounters, he is totally drawn to Fiona’s sparkling personality and can’t follow his own self-imposed rules. I just loved his willingness to change his way of life for Fiona.

The chemistry between Fiona and Mark blasts its way off the page and threatens to burn you up. The down and dirty dialogue between them is off the charts real for their age and keeps the sexual tension going. I could totally see twenty-somethings talking and thinking as these two do throughout this book.

If you enjoy a light-hearted read with strong characters, a humorous story that will put a smile on your face, then you will love The Spark. I can’t wait to read the next book in this delight series. This one will have you laughing so hard it will bring tears to your eyes. Happy reading!

Vikki’s Musings

Tammy Andersen is a new-to-me author, and I enjoyed her writing style. I received a request to read Taming a Lady Wolfe from the Ms. Andersen, and the book description intrigued me, so I decided to accept this novella for review.

I must say the prologue dropped me right into the middle of an action scene and set up the rest of the novella nicely. Ms. Andersen writes a fast-paced story with engaging characters. The editing was excellent. For a novella, the characters are surprisingly well developed.

Lady Delia de Wolfe is an attractive heroine, not only beautiful but kind-hearted as well. She loves her family and is staunchly loyal. She also gains great fulfillment from cooking and baking, which for a gentle woman living in 1795 is extraordinary. I could feel her pain and guilt over her brother’s death and could understand her reasoning when you take into account her tender age when he fell to his death trying to save her.

Roderick, 4^th Duke of Winthrop is drool-worthy, handsome, determined and a protector, my favorite kind of hero. I’ve always loved a rake who sees the error of his ways when he finds his lady love. When he saves Delia from death, she saves him from a life of debauchery. He made the decision that fateful day to live in a way that would be deserving of Delia’s admiration and affection.

When they meet again, once Delia is of an age to marry, the chemistry and sexual tension is extremely strong and had me rooting for them to find their happy ending. Roderick’s manner of wooing her stole my heart.

If you enjoy an emotionally-charged romance with a great cast of characters and a believable plot, then you will enjoy Roderick and Delia’s love story as much as I did. I highly recommend you give this a read. Happy reading!

“Are you sure you can’t come by, Sasha? This necklace is odd. The patterns aren’t matching up with any in the computer. It’s still searching, but it’s going slower and slower.”

Sasha’s redheaded face appeared in the corner of Kelsey’s screen.

“No, I have to lecture this afternoon, sorry. But tomorrow’s the weekend, maybe then. I just logged in so I could see. Fascinating. Maybe you’ll catalogue an entire newfound strain of Celtic expression.”

“Wouldn’t that be something?”

Kelsey wanted to say more.

But bare chested Tavish MacGregor came bustling into her tent from the tower house, where a bunch of other construction workers were busy. Bronze haired and brown eyed like Kelsey, he had been a nosy construction worker at every last one of her Scottish clients’ places so far, and always stubbornly wearing that red and green plaid great kilt that made him so darn sexy she could just...

And those strong arms that had made her feel so loved and cherished, all those years ago. And his fighting prowess that had protected her a time or two…

Kelsey blinked herself back into the present and turned to her client, to gauge his reaction to what Tavish had told him.

Mr. Blair looked skeptical, but patient.

“Hold on, nae. Let the doctor finish her appraisal, lad.”

Ha, Lad. Good thing someone was around who could put Tavish in his place. She didn’t trust herself to try—and besides, she was a professional woman now, not the teen she’d been when she and Tavish knew each other.

She gave her client a patient conspiratorial smile, which he returned. This made her feel warm inside. He respected her expertise, unlike some people.

With the young virile man and the grey stooped man both watching, she finished her complicated high-tech tests on the necklace. Unwilling to believe what she saw and trying not to scowl, she tested a silver goblet next, and then an ornate bronze breastplate.

Finally, she had to admit that Tavish was right.
